Anthony Paterson
Director/Co-Founder
I grew up in Lichfield in the South Waikato, from a young age I had a passion for carpentry. I was always out in the shed tinkering away and building something, whether it was a new bike ramp to jump with my friends, or a bird house to sell in my parents shop I just loved to make things.
In 2008 I started a BCITO apprenticeship at JLN Builders in Tirau. During my time there I learnt a lot, quality was at the forefront of everything we did, and I developed a strong work ethic and pride in my work.
After finishing my apprenticeship at the end of 2012, I moved down to Wellington with Sophie, my now wife, and began working for Holmes Wellington. They specialised in high end residential and light commercial work. I worked as a carpenter for around 10 months before quickly moving up to running sites as a foreman/site manager.
Some of these jobs that stand out include:
Park Kitchen and the adjoining Miramar Fish & Chips Shop, this taught me a lot about managing a big team, organising a range of sub-contractors, and working to a tight timeframe.
Re-Building a 3-storey house at 147 Tasman St in Newtown from the ground up after it had caught fire, and renovating the adjoining house attached to it. This was an interesting job with a lot of challenges as it was your typical wellington house, built on the side of a hill with other houses in close proximity, and up a very narrow street. I learnt a lot about programming, scheduling, and getting creative on this job because on such a small site there was limited space to store materials and have multiple trades working at the same time.
And 50 Grafton Rd/53 The Crescent in Roseneath which was a multi-million dollar project, this included renovating an existing house, earthquake strengthening it, extending it and attaching it to a newly built 10 car underground garage with lawn and in-ground pool above. Throughout my time on this job I gained a lot of knowledge and skill working with the architect and engineers on such a large scale project to achieve the clients vision.
In 2018 Sophie and I left Wellington for our big OE. We travelled through Japan, China, and most of Europe while working in cafes and restaurants in Scotland and England to keep the travels going. We had such an amazing time and made some lifelong friends.
While we were traveling, we dreamed up Momentum Building, with the goal of delivering high quality new builds and renovations in the Waikato, and when we returned to NZ in 2019 that dream became a reality. Since returning our family has also grown, and we now have two beautiful little girls, Lucy 3 and Kate 1.
I am a big believer of providing great service and a quality product. Over the years the company has grown, and we now have a collaborative and people-focused culture which has helped us build a reliable community of suppliers and trades we work with to deliver on our client’s dreams.

HARLEY TAHATIKA
Qualifed Builder
Hi I’m Harley. I’ve been working with Momentum Building for a year now, I have 6 years experience, am trade qualified, and as the foreman I run the day to day site activities. I take pride in my work and I enjoy the different challenges running a building site brings, and seeing
the end product.
After work I really enjoy playing rugby for Morrinsville sports, and playing social summer sports like touch and netball. When I'm not on the field I'm in the gym grinding.
JOSH LOUSI
Apprentice
Hey I’m Josh, I’m a first year apprentice at Momentum Building. Before starting building I had 3 years experience fencing, where I gained my level 2 certificate in fencing. I also did 3 years of concreting, doing moulds and on site boxing, along with driving forklifts and working in retail.
Building was ultimately the dream to get my life and career on course to reach my end goal of owning my own home and company.
I enjoy working for Momentum Building because we have a solid crew that can communicate and work well together, a good work environment and good vibes all around.
I love music, so when I’m not at work i love playing guitar, i’ve been playing for the last 12 years (self taught). I also loving relaxing and playing games on the Xbox and having a cold beer with mates.
